Kick The Can

They are officially referring to the Bush Administrations approach to dealing with these and other ongoing and emerging global problems as the "kick the can" strategy.
They are probably busying themselves with the 'end of term' and holiday parties in the fall and moving arrangements.

I wonder if he'll go back to Crawford?

Do nothing until January, he can do that standin' on his head.
Even with the chorus of people who are goading him to attack Iran before he leaves office, I think Bush himself, is more than happy not to illicit more controversy.
I think he is happy to ride out his 'record' on the Iraq war, and the fact that we were not attacked again on his watch, (his nightly prayer).
Of course he knows the bomb is ticking (he can hear it from where he is), but maybe just maybe it won't go off until after Jan 09.
The economy, the wars, the environment, health care, gas prices etc. etc. he can ride it all out till Jan.

There is another school of thought though and that is Bush will adopt a hubris reminiscent of "Mission Accomplished" and give us a "what the heck"
approach, why go out with a whimper when you can go out with a bang.
After January 09 he will never again have the option to order the military to attack something.
If he is going to be remembered as the worst president in US history why not go out big.
What's he got to lose, public opinion?
And there is no shortage of those in this administration urging the president to do just that.

George if you are reading this, I vote pull a Capt' Kirk, and just ignore it and hope it all goes away after Christmas. Try doing nothing, it can't get much worse. Maybe even keep the door open for poor ol Jeb in 2012.

Official says Iran has stopped using US dollar for oil deals

Who are the big threats to the US? Venezuela and Iran because they wont play nice with their oil.
Even though it is hard to find any act of terror carried out by Venezuela or Iran unless you count their actions in Iraq, you know in the war we started.

"Venezuela's associations with terror states, Iran's meddling in Iraq and the resurgence of al Qaeda in Afghanistan top the concerns in a new State Department report on terrorism threats in countries around the world."

"The Taliban in Afghanistan -- whose government was toppled by U.S.-led forces after the September 11 attacks in 2001 -- has strengthened its military and technical capabilities even while suffering heavy combat losses, says a State Department report released Wednesday."
